چکیده

We simulate the induction and maintenance of late long-term potentiation (L-LTP) in the hippocampal dentate gyrus by means of a new synaptic plasticity rule that is the result of combination of the spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) and the moving LTD/LTP threshold yM from the Bienenstock, Cooper and Munro (BCM) theory of synaptic plasticity. We propose the activity-dependent functional equation for yM to be based on two processes: (1) fast process that depends on average postsynaptic spike count and (2) slow process that is a function of concentration of phosphorylated CREB (cAMP-responsive element binding) transcription factor, activation of which induces gene expression to maintain L-LTP. In the end, we propose a new, more general form of synaptic plasticity rule, which is applicable to any form of activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Improving Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Drought Tolerance by Suppressing a NF-YA Transcription Factor

The response to drought stress is a complicated process involving stress sensing, intracellular signaltransduction, and the execution of a cellular response. Transcription factors play important roles in the signaling pathways including abiotic stress. In the present study a rice NF-YA transcription factor gene was partially characterized following dehydration. Disrupting the gene via a T...

Separation of Geochemical Anomalies Using Factor Analysis and Concentration-Number (C-N) Fractal Modeling Based on Stream Sediments Data in Esfordi 1:100000 Sheet, Central Iran

The aim of this study is separation of Fe2O3, TiO2 and V2O5 anomalies in Esfordi 1:100,000 sheet which is located in Bafq district, Central Iran. The analyzed elements of stream sediment samples taken in the area can be classified into 5 groups (factors) by factor analysis. The Concentration–Number (C-N) fractal model was used for delineation of the Fe2O3, TiO2 and V2O5 thresholds. According to...

Long-term effects of brief acute stress on cellular signaling and hippocampal LTP.

In a previous study, we reported that a brief exposure to swim stress transforms an electrically induced, protein synthesis-independent early long-term potentiation (early LTP) into a protein synthesis-dependent late LTP ["reinforcement of LTP" in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG)] (Korz and Frey, 2003). This transformation depends on activation of mineralocorticoid receptors (MRs) by corticos...

Transcription factors in neuroendocrine regulation: rhythmic changes in pCREB and ICER levels frame melatonin synthesis.

Neurotransmitter-driven activation of transcription factors is important for control of neuronal and neuroendocrine functions. We show with an in vivo approach that the norepinephrine cAMP-dependent rhythmic hormone production in rat pineal gland is accompanied by a temporally regulated switch in the ratio of a transcriptional activator, phosphorylated cAMP-responsive element-binding protein (p...
